Shroud of Turin

Face of the Man of the Shroud
In celebration of its 15th anniversary, Spirit Catholic Radio is bringing a traveling exhibit, titled “The Man of the Shroud,” to nine different cities across Nebraska during June and July. The Shroud of Turin has long been venerated by the faithful and is believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth.

The exhibit will be on display at various parishes and Catholic high schools in cooperation with local Knights of Columbus councils.

The traveling exhibit, developed by the late Msgr. Guilio Ricci, president of the Roman Center for the Study of Holy Shroud at the Vatican, includes as the centerpiece of the exhibit a full length photographic image of the Shroud made by the Eastman Kodak Co. In addition, the exhibit contains a nearly life-size crucified corpus showing the wounds of Christ corresponding to the passion narrative in the Gospel accounts and the wounds shown on the Shroud.

“The Shroud was chosen to coincide with our 15th anniversary theme, Encounter Jesus,” said Jim Carroll, executive director of Spirit Catholic Radio. “The Shroud brings the person of Jesus to something we can experience with our senses. My hope is that Jesus as a real person is something that can be carried with people after they view the exhibit. This is physical evidence that Jesus was a real person, and that he suffered and died, but, of course, rose again.”

The exhibit contains 92 panels detailing the history and science of the Shroud. The exhibit will begin the trek across Nebraska June 1-8 at St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Omaha before traveling to North American Martyrs Church in Lincoln June 9-15.

In addition to the display, internationally known shroud expert Russ Breault of Shroud Encounter will present a 90-minute multi-media presentation at 5 p.m. June 8 at St. Robert Bellarmine and 7 p.m. June 9 at North American Martyrs. Tickets to the presentation are $5.

Cost to view the exhibit is free.

We encourage you to bring a friend, and help others encounter Jesus!
